This hosta is an example of flecked coloration. The edge is dark green and the centers are yellow; but within the yellow there are flecks of the greeen. It's almost like the 'plant fairy' did a very bad job of painting the yellow. The green in my garden looks nearly 'black' by the end of the season.
I had ordered 3 divisions and received enough plant stock for 6 divisions. So I divided it immediately even though the recored above says 3 plants. The smallest of the 6 is a very tiny division of only 3 small leaves.
During the 2016 year the plants began to sport as pure green leaves.
For the 2017 season the plant spiked only on the east side of the grouping (suspiciously like someone took the west side of the arrangement). The sporting has continued and I plan to seperate what is known as "Emerald City Chick" from the Dixie Chickadee this year sometime. I am also noting another sport among the leaves that has a line down the leaf that is inconsistently located. I may separate this too to see if this persists.

This hosta exemplifies coloration that is flected. Dark green hosta, with a yellow (white) band down the center, and the band of color lookis like it was badly painted and lets the dark greem show through.
Chaos and Distruction
[U.S.A. Civil War reference] It has been suggested that a Dixie Chickadee might refer to a Confederate spy on Union Territory.
