I repurchased this with the thought that it might not survive. But the Hosta Direct divisions did survive and spiked exceptionally early during 2017.
This is the hosta that's supposed to turn red over the summer. As of this season (2017) all I'm seeing is an attempt to turn red, and then self destruction of the leaves. I am not sure what is going on with this plant. Will keep watching this plant.
After doing some reading the self-destructive of leaves might be happening due to a growing condition known as: Anthracnose [pronouced an·thrac·nose]. Anthracnose is caused by excessive watering from the TOP of the plant. Both the HostaDirect, and the Made in the Shade First Blush shipments experienced this during each of their respective first seasons. While Anthracnose is attributed to top side watering, I am also wondering if this might also be caused by shipment shock. We'll know more in the spring of 2018 when next years spikes come up.
